Welcome to High Park Communities
Neighbourhood Description
Greatly enhanced by their proximity to High Park, the communities of Bloor West Village, High Park, and Swansea are located in one of the best natural settings in the city. Bordered by the lakefront parks, the Humber River, High Park and Grenadier Pond these neighbourhoods are made more attractive by hilly, windy, tree- lined streets and by the distinct, interesting shopping districts located here.
Conveniently located within walking distance from High Park, the Bloor Subway line, and the stores on Bloor Street West, Roncesvalles Village, an up and coming neighbourhood also located in this area is tucked in between Parkdale and High Park. A wonderful century-old Toronto community diverse in ethnicity, age and income, Roncesvalles was once the first home of newly arrived immigrants, particularly from Poland. This influence is still there today especially in the vibrant business district along Roncesvalles Avenue where Polish is still spoken and where many delis, restaurants and food markets are located .This area is a hot spot of change and revitalization. The most recent influx into the community over the last decade is of young families and middle and higher income professionals. Additionally, renewal of the commercial districts and development and updating of the streetscape is in progress and renovated homes and pockets of rebuilds are developing near the Sorauren Park where the conversion of the Robert Watson Warehouse into lofts is part of this trend.
These High Park area neighbourhoods have similarities in their heritages, their busy street life and their access to the Bloor / Danforth Subway line. Closeness to downtown Toronto and to the major transportation arteries out of the city is another advantage to this area.
