Neighbourhood Description

Summerhill located just fifteen minutes walking distance north of Yorkville is a small, beautiful neighbourhood full of variety and interest in its architecture, gardens and parks. Interesting shops often specializing in one of a kind items and great cafes and restaurants enhance this part of Yonge Street. Although located in a prime, busy area in midtown Toronto it still has retained a quiet, congenial atmosphere for its residents who have preserved the beauty of the old houses with newer or renovated properties generally complementing the old.   

The area east of Yonge Street is bordered by the David Balfour Park and Rosehill Reservoir large open spaces, that lead into Toronto’s major ravine walking paths and bicycle routes linking the city’s neighbourhoods. Summerhill residents also benefit from their proximity to the Yonge and St Clair  area to the north where there are more extensive commercial and retail facilities.

Summerhill, one of Toronto’s great neighbourhoods, is cut off from the bustle of the city because through streets are limited, its streetscape is quiet, trees are plentiful and access to green space is nearby.

Real Estate

Edwardian and Victorian style homes, both good-sized semis and large detached homes, preserved and upgraded are situated on lots with fairly deep frontages and good-sized gardens.  Most houses, however, are very close together here. Some streets consist of little row houses often interspersed with recently built townhouses and semis. There is permit parking on the small often dead end streets and some back lane and garage parking.  A cluster of high-rise buildings containing rental apartments, with low to mid- rise condominiums nearby, is located on the edge of the park system. An extensive newer development of condominiums and townhouses has been built around the restored Summerhill Railway Station.
